Volgens de redactie van Zoekenvindalles.nl is Mothership Connection van Parliament het beste funk album dat ooit is uitgebracht. Op dit album kwam de P-Funk met alle bizarre figuren die in deze funkwereld leefden tot volle wasdom. Belangrijk voor de kwaliteit van het album is ook dat hierop voor het eerst saxofonist Maceo Parket en trombonist Fred Wesley meespeelden. Beide legendarische muzikanten waren afkomstig uit een van de allereerste funkbands ooit, The J.B.'s, die James Brown begeleidden.
